About Patrick

Patrick has been an animal lover since before he could walk. He grew up in a household known for taking in unwanted pets and providing a safe, loving home for them. One of his very first memories is sitting on the family porch with his mom surrounded by a sea of newspaper and a litter of German Shepard puppies who had been left in a box on the side of the road. The puppies were nursed until healthy and then, when old enough, neutered, spade, housetrained and given away to loving homes- except the runt of the litter who joined our family permanently and we named “Wooly Bear.”

There was rarely a time growing up when our house didn’t have an extra animal or five. Often our visitors were dogs and cats, but there were also appearances by other species like birds, hamsters, fish, snakes, and a very large snapping turtle! We even took care of horses a few times – but they didn’t come to stay with us! And the animals who we did care for weren’t always cute, cuddly and well behaved.Some had been abused, some had been taught bad habits, and some were just mean! But over the years we learned how to communicate without our voices and learned that, if you listen to what they tell you, and provide consistent and humane treatment, you can get even the most frustrating cases to cooperate. They all needed food, care, exercise and support and it was our privilege to provide it.

Since growing up, going away to college, and starting his professional life, Patrick has always missed having animals in his life. Patrick’s Pet Care started in Columbia Heights after one friend and then another asked Patrick to pet-sit and dog walk while they were away. It evolved when a next-door neighbor was having trouble getting his husky to walk calmly down the street rather than pulling him like a sled. Now it’s growing every day with walking, boarding and training clients not just in Columbia Heights but also in Adams Morgan, Cleveland Park as well as Arlington, Virginia and Bethesda and greater Montgomery County, Maryland.
